Babes

By the time the weekend rolled around I was exhausted. Vander had stayed true to his word as he always did and we had been hanging out every day for the past two weeks. Actively working out with Vander nearly everyday bar three was beyond a dream but by the end of week two my muscles were fatigued and sore. Luke had been busy the weekend before last so I hadn’t seen him since then which had been relieving while training.

Vander had noticed a bit toward the end of this past week when I had flagged early on in energy levels in our sessions and he had gone easy on me which I had appreciated.

What he probably didn’t notice however, because I was stubbornly trying not to show him, was just how tense some of my muscles were. He was busier when it was just him on his own and I didn’t want to add to that further when no doubt things would adjust and sort themselves out in their due course.

Luke waltzed in the doors whistling away early that Saturday. I could hear the rest of the ponygirls shuffle and whicker restlessly behind their stable doors.

He eventually pulled open the top of my stable door and I eyed him from the corner of my stall.

“Morning Verna.” He watched me choosing not to watch him but I remained as ever, highly aware of his proximity outside the stall door. “It’s raining out there pretty bad today. Vander said there’s delays on his way back from the store.”

His hair did look a bit tousled and rainswept I noted on a split second look at him.

Luke nodded when I, true to form, didn’t respond or acknowledge hin and moved on down the stalls.

I shifted around my box, a bit listlessly before settling in a corner standing resting one leg.

It was all a routine hum of activity and I half closed my eyes in an alert but resting manner and was in a calm trance when suddenly there was a loud clatter in the aisleway.

My eyes shot open in an instant to where the noise had come from.

Almost inadvertently I kicked out at the wall behind me in response to being startled. The muscles in my leg spasmed at the sudden movement and as I tensed they contracted firmly, and the next thing I knew they were full-on cramping right down my right calf and thigh muscle and I collapsed down to the straw in agony.

A hiss of pain escaped my lips and with my cuffed wrists behind me I could do no more than lie writhing on my side as my sore muscles from the week of activity raged in a muscle seizing cramp.

“Fuck Verna, what the hell happened.” My groans were interuppted by Luke’s concerned expression at the stall door.

Upon seeing him, my body tensed further which only exacerbated the issue.

Luke’s hand was on the latch of the stall but he paused as he watched a further wave of pain course over me.

“Verna. Stay as relaxed as you can, I’m going to call Vander. I’m not coming in, don’t panic.”

I watched as he took a step back from the door. He could still see me but I did feel more relieved both with him taking some distance and also knowing he was contacting Vander.

“Vander. Look I know you’re stuck getting back at the minute but I heard a bang from Verna’s stall… Yeah Dime. I’m outside it now and she’s writhing in pain on the ground inside. Her right leg seems to be painful but I can’t be sure its not something more serious going on. I called you as soon as I’ve seen.”

Luke’s voice was calm under pressure and he cut to the chase immediately. There was a pause as he listened to the response from the other end of the line.

“No I’m not in the stable with her.”

“Yes, she’s conscious. She’s groaning in pain sir, but not struggling to breathe.”

He listened a while longer.

“Should I call the -,” he ended his own sentence before he could finish it.

“Okay.”

“No. I didn’t think so either.”

“Alright. Well, I’ll -.” There was a pause mid-sentence. “Think you might have lost service there Vander… bursa escort bayan Hello?”

Luke sighed and I was aware of him stepping back up to the door and presumed the phone call had cut out.

“Verna that was Vander. He’s in traffic at the moment and just cut out. He’s ten minutes away but I need you to relax as best you can in the meantime. I’m not gonna come in there just now but I’m concerned about you.

Just focus on your breathing and getting that nice and steady.”

I don’t think I’d ever actually heard him speak that much let alone directly to me and I was struck for just a moment by his calm husk.

“I’m gonna count to 4 and I want you to breathe in really nice and slow to that count and then hold for 2 and then breathe out for 4 alrighty?”

I gave no indication of hearing him and instead just groaned again as my leg showed no signs of easing up.

Luke started counting and for the first few counts I ignored him completely, my focus on the shooting pains in my thigh.

LUKE POV

Luke watched Verna, internally frustrated that he couldn’t be more helpful and yet knowing as well that going into that stall would be counterproductive for everything.

He was glad Vander was relatively close by, provided the weather wouldn’t provide further delays.

He counted in his calm drawl and watched Verna’s chest rise and fall rapidly enough while still groaning with what he was hoping was leg pain and not anything more sinister. As it was, he couldn’t outwardly tell if something was broken or not from just looking at her over the stall and while waiting for Vander to be able to help assess such things and make the appropriate calls from there was the correct decision in this situation, he hated watching her writhe in pain in the meantime.

Luke didn’t know how long he had counted for but he was just about giving out hope he was even doing anything remotely helpful and was possibly just adding more stress to the situation by his presence when he noticed Verna exhale rather shakily exactly to his count.

“And breathing in 1 — 2 — 3 — 4,” Luke counted and watched her breathing match his count.

It took everything in him not to show his elation in his voice and keep his voice level. He’d been coming here a year now and this was this very first time he thought she’d actually ever not just listened to what he was saying but followed something he had said as well.

God she was an enigma, and very much a one-owner-pony to the point he had had to accept (until very recently when Vander had pulled him aside to talk about his plans with Verna) that she would never be a ponygirl he would be able to even interact with.

After five minutes or so of Verna following his breathing instruction Luke noted her facial muscles seemed to be less scrunched up in pain and her leg seemed more relaxed.

“Good mare,” the praise had escaped his lips inadvertently and he could have cursed himself as he watched her tense at his words and immediately groan in pain again as she did so.

Luke continued counting nonetheless, his voice lifting just a few decibels louder so she could hear him clearly over her own sounds.

After 30 seconds or so he watched her fall back into rhythm and her groaning stopped.

Just as he was about to continue another round, there was the familiar sound of the large barn door being opened and Luke was pleased to see Vander’s ute drive right through the middle and stop outside of Verna’s stall.

Vander jumped out in a hurry. “You’ll shut the barn door will you Luke?” he asked. Luke took that as his cue to depart.

VERNA POV

I could have cried with relief when I heard Vander’s ute pull up outside and more so when I saw him unlatch the door and stride toward me.

“What trouble have you got yourself into huh Dime?” He asked, his fingers immediately reaching to bursa escort sitesi undo the wrist cuffs from behind me.

I tried to move too quickly and winced in pain.

“Your leg?” Vander asked and I groaned in response.

“Can you stand?”

He helped me up and although I winced and things were still tense, the active cramping had resided, and everything was much more bearable.

Vander ran his hands very gently down my whole body and knew the straw nestled through my hair and sweat mixed with some of the damp straw from overnight that hadnt been mucked out yet on my body wouldn’t have gone amiss by his sharp eyes either.

Nor Luke’s either apparently.

He appreared in the aisle a few minutes later and cleared his throat by way of announcing his arrival to me. My eyes which had drifted shut under Vander’s touch flew open and toward the sound.

Luke stood still as a rock in the doorway, “I’m not coming any closer,” he started with which I knew was mostly for my benefit. With Vander standing right next to me I felt okay.

“Vander, I have some warmed heat bags, warm oats for breakfast with some crushed ibuprofen in it too. There’s a bucket of warm water here too if you wanted to sponge her down.”

Vander tipped his head at Luke. “Thanks Luke, I’ll catch up with you later?”

Luke nodded, “I’ll finish the rounds and sort Lani and Sky for the transporter. I noticed a bit of a chill in that spare box down the way so thought I’d pull the gib down and put some more insulation in the walls if there’s a spare moment considering its not the weather for taking ponies out to the paddocks today.”

Once Luke had gone Vander slipped to grab my bridle and slipped it over my head. I accepted the rubber gag bit in my mouth and he fastened the bridle firmly behind my head.

He picked the cuffs back up and instead of cuffing my wrists back behind my back as usual he cuffed them in front of my body instead.

After he had cleaned the stall he put me back in it and took off my cuffs and let me lay on the straw. He gently and carefully sponged down my whole body and then applied the heat bags to my right thigh and then calf for a good ten minutes each.

Once all that had finally been done he popped the oats in the feed bin and patted my ass.

“Eat up – I’ll be back later to check on you.”

In the feed room Vander clapped Luke on the shoulder.

“Thanks for looking out for my mare,” he thanked, his eyes expressing the depth of the gratitude he felt for the apprentice.

“You’ve come a long way since when you first started and you’ve got a real way about you – even a blindman could see that.”

“I didn’t want to make her too anxious Vander, or do the wrong thing. If it was any other pony I would have been straight in there but watching from the outside wasn’t easy either.”

“You did just fine Luke. If she weren’t so unwilling toward strangers she’d be a good cabdidate for you to put those budding physio massage skills of yours to practise. Her muscles are so tight I think she’s seized up pretty painfully with a bit of cramp unfortunately. But could have been something much worse which it doesn’t seem to be thankfully.”

Luke was relieved to hear that and waved Vander’s praise off.

“Only this year to go of studying thankfully. Nearly light ar the end of the tunnel and then you might be sick of me chewing your ear off with ideas for physio and hydrotherapy for the ponies.”

Everything was feeling more limber the next morning in my body. The rain hadn’t subsided much throughout the night however and was still pelting down on the roof when Luke arrived.

I heard the other ponies whicker in excitment and I rolled my eyes from the back corner of my stall.

I had just settled into a comfortable lean against the stable wall, carefully testing the when my eyes jerked sharply toward the sound of my top stable door being unlocked.

Luke was breaking his routine, was the first thing I thought. He would never come down to this end of the barn first and let alone to my stable which instantly made me wary.

I was positively spikey with all of these thoughts by the time I saw Luke’s face come into view. Normally I would ignore the man as much as possible but my wariness had me in flight or fight mode due to the change in routine and my full attention was locked on Luke standing at the stall door now.

He didn’t actually say anything at first and I watched him suspiciously as he, with his damp tousled hair and tense jaw, ran his eyes down the full length of me and because I was watching him intently I could visibly see the moment he relaxed his expression and seemed relieved.

“Good mare.” He uttered those two words and turned back to track back to the front of the barn where he normally began and I listened long enough to hear his voice in a deep murmur greet one of the ponies who whickered gently at him.

I was thrown for a loop after he left. I suspected his praise was more of a reflex to what he would say to the other ponies but he’d said it to me yesterday as well and I’d practically seized tightly again at the foreignness of the words and hearing them from someone other than Vander, let alone the keen stable hand who’d watched me come undone the other day with a hard lust in his eyes.

My brain had refused to switch off from yesterday. It had replayed all of the situation in my head over and over. What had struck me the most was how collected and unflappable he’d been. And despite me groaning in what felt like agony in my leg, he’d remained on the other side of the door. It occurred to me that whilst I’d been so steadfast in ignoring his presence, he was now a long way from the young naiive stable hand he’d once been.

When Vander finally arrived I was beyond relieved to see him. I nickered at him and when he stepped into the stall with my bridle I’d never put the bit between my teeth so eagerly.

His mouth curled into an amused smile at me and ran his hands first along my jaw then traced down my neck to my breasts which I thrust willingly further into his touch.

Vander gave me a firm squeeze on my breasts as I did so, which caused me to moan longingly against the bit.

“Well that answers my questions on if you’re feeling better today doesn’t it?” He shook his head with a chuckle.

“Let’s get to work girl, I think a slow relaxed walk finished by a groom is what might do you some good today.”

He led me into the aisle and put my harness and crotch rope on me.

Leading me down the aisle we passed Luke in one of the spare stalls.

Vander’s stride halted and I came to a reluctant halt beside him.

“I’m taking Dime for a stroll around the indoor arena Luke.” The younger cowboy tipped his head towards Vander and eyed me harnessed on my knees beside Vander.

My body had tensed a little but Vander had kept a steady hold of the reins attached to my bit and leaned down to take a firm reassuring hold of my mane.

“If that job can wait, perhaps you want to observe. That’s the least Dime and I could do after your help yesterday.”

There it was. An official training invitation extended towards Luke. Somewhat veiled under a casual offer but I think all of us knew what it was.

I trusted Vander, with my life, and with him holding me close while I said it I didn’t doubt he wouldn’t look after me first and foremost. The last 2 week of intense training had further solidified that for me.

But I also knew, particularly as I flickered my eyes briefly towards Luke and found his dark molten ones meeting mine, that the storm and incident yesterday had changed things and I was suddenly worried about new and different things on top of all of the old things.

One of those being how much I actually might want Luke to call me a good mare again.

Happy New Year to y’all! It’s been many years since I picked this up and after returning to it it’s given me a lot to deliberate with how this story might progress. Hope you enjoy.
